Correct Application of Lawn Fertilizers

Too many people ignore the importance of lawn fertilizers for keeping the grass in tip-top condition. Not only do lawn fertilizers help to strengthen the grass and make it grow, but also to ensure a dark green and healthy colour throughout the year. Fertilizing also helps to improve the hardiness of the grass. Although it will certainly not on its own ensure a perfect lawn, fertilizing forms an important component in proper lawn care.
The mixture is calculated based on the grass type, season, soil, and moisture levels. The lawn fertilizers that we use contain the three main elements namely, Phosphate, Potassium, and Nitrogen. All three components are important. The correct amount of each however, is extremely important to ensure proper growth, strength, and colour.
The Nitrogen is important for faster growing of the grass. It is however, important to ensure that the fertilising mixture contains just the right amount of Nitrogen as too much will lead to excessive growth of the top grass while not encouraging enough root growth. This will cause weak grass that will not be able to withstand the winter months. The correct amount of Nitrogen in combination with Phosphate and Potassium is required to ensure thick, dark coloured, and healthy top grass with strong roots.
In addition to the above combination, the fertilizing mixes also contain the correct amount of micro-nutrients such as Zinc, Iron, and Manganese. Since some micro-nutrients are not already present in the soil, you may need to add them. A proper assessment of the soil and grass quality is done before we apply the fertilizing mixture.

The correct application of lawn fertilizers during the spring and winter periods is essential for strong and healthy grass. Contact us today to assess your lawn and to provide you with the best possible lawn and maintenance care services.
