Tips On Mowing Lawn Grass

Few people realize how important the correct mowing practice is to ensure green and lush lawn grass which will stay weed free. Apart from our services regarding the restoration of lawn grass and maintenance thereof, we also provide our clients with valuable insight into proper lawn maintenance including the mowing of grass.

As such a few tips are shared below to help you keep your lawn grass in excellent condition through correct mowing.

Use the correct equipment

Although a weed eater or trimmer is certainly perfect for the trimming of edges, it is not suited for the mowing of grass. You want an equal cut and don’t want to risk cutting the grass too short because of the difficulty of handling the trimmer.

Condition of the lawnmower

If it is still running, the lawnmower is good enough to cut the grass, isn’t it? Unfortunately the answer is no. The lawnmower blades must be sharp. Blunt blades will damage the grass and will cause a ragged appearance. The damaged grass will become brown at spots and struggle to keep their lush green look.

Height of the wheels

You may think it is better to cut the grass as short as possible, but the opposite is true. If the grass is too short, the soil will struggle to keep moisture. In addition the soil will become hardened. This will have the effect of low nutrient and oxygen accessibility for the roots. In return the condition of the grass will worsen and weeds will get a chance to take over. Check the height adjustments, and as a rule of thumb, never cut more than a third of the grass blade length. Warm area grasses should not be cut as short as winter grass.
