Tips – How To Plant Grass Seeds

You may need to plant grass seeds to cover bare spots in your lawn. You can use the tips below for more success when you plant grass seeds.

As an alternative, simply contact us for immediate assistance in the restoration of your lawn, maintenance of it, and where necessary, to plant grass seeds.

You will need the following to get the job done:

  • Grass seed – contact us for advice regarding the best types for the particular area where you stay and whether the grass will grow in the shade or open areas.
  • Remember that cheap seeds will not germinate all that well.
  • Top soil which we can also apply for you.
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Rake & shovel
  • Sprinkler

Steps

  • Use the wheelbarrow to carry the top soil. Break up the soil a bit and then use the shovel as you move along to spread it evenly.  Mix the seed with the top soil and do the spreading.
  • It is important to first level the ground and ensure that there is enough water drainage away from the house.
  • Remember it should be evenly spread in a thin layer.
  • Lightly apply more topsoil and rake over to ensure that the surface is even and the seeds spread evenly.
  • Use a sprinkler to moisturize the area after you have lightly pressed the seeds into the ground with another thin layer of topsoil.
  • Where required you can add fertilizer. First check the soil pH level to ensure correct mixture. We can handle this part as well.
  • Keep the seeds and soil moist, but not wet through.
  • If you want even better results, prepare the soil where you plan to plant through aeration and a bit of fertilizer.
  • Weed control application can be done once the seeds have germinated and the lawn mowed about twice.
