    Common Problems

Your garden is an intricately balanced ecosystem. If an aspect falls out of balance, it may have a profound effect on the health and look of the rest of your garden. Your lawn is no different – and unfortunately disease can strike in the blink of an eye.

Grass Problems

A few of the common grass problems are briefly shared below.

Common insect problems are that of bugs and grubs and such problems can be identified by looking at the surface and rolling back a patch of grass. Insects have a way of spreading damage quickly over a wide area. The best treatment is insecticide. Once done, fertilizer and regular watering as well as mowing should help to keep them at bay.

Grass Diseases

Not so easy to identify, grass diseases also cause havoc in a lawn. Identification is often done through close inspection, and sometimes, a microscope may be required to identify the bacteria or fungus responsible for damage. Visible identification can be done by looking at the grass. You will see browning of grass at irregular or circular patches. The grass may become thinner. One of the most common lawn fungus types is the very visible mushroom. Pesticide may be needed, aeration, and correct watering, mowing and fertilizer application.

The most common of form of grass problems are that of weeds. Not only are weeds not attractive, they also take away water and essential nutrients from the grass. The best way to get rid of them is to use herbicide control and then to remove the weeds totally. Next, start with regular mowing, but mow only a third of the grass blades. Weeds take over when the grass is too short.

Moss often occurs where grass struggles to grow. Although the moss covers the bare areas, you will most probably prefer grass to grow there. The solution is to aerate the soil for better nutrition and oxygen flow, cut away branches to get a bit of sunlight for the grass, and restore the pH balance of the soil through fertilization.
